Optimising your Vinted listings: the keywords that attract buyers

6 min read·19 February 2026

Understanding how Vinted's search engine works so you can write titles and descriptions that appear at the top of results.

Publishing a listing on Vinted is not enough — it needs to be visible. Vinted's internal search engine ranks millions of items in real time based on precise criteria. Understanding those criteria lets you write titles that rise naturally to the top of results, without paying for a boost.

How Vinted's search engine works

Vinted's algorithm is a search engine that combines relevance and recency. It uses several signals to rank your listings:

  • Keyword match — between what the buyer types and your title
  • Freshness — recently published or bumped items appear higher
  • Category filters — a miscategorised item is invisible under certain filters
  • Seller profile — response rate, reviews, account age
  • Likes — an engagement signal that boosts visibility

Common misconception

The description is not indexed in Vinted's search results. Only the title is analysed by the algorithm. Focus your effort on the title, not the description.

The formula for the perfect title

A good Vinted title answers the question: "What would a buyer type to find this item?" The optimal structure covers 5 dimensions:

  • Brand — the top filter criterion, always first
  • Item type — dress, jeans, jacket, trainers, bag...
  • Colour — buyers filter heavily by colour
  • Size — essential; use XS/S/M or numeric sizes depending on the brand
  • Distinctive feature — oversized, vintage, Y2K, leather, embroidered...

High-volume keywords on Vinted

Some terms are searched thousands of times a day on Vinted. Working them naturally into your titles increases your chances of being found.

Trending styles currently being searched

  • Y2K — early 2000s fashion, strong growth
  • Oversized — for loose-fit and streetwear pieces
  • Vintage — anything with patina or an aged character
  • Streetwear — hoodies, joggers, trainers from major brands
  • Cottagecore — floral dresses, linen, rural aesthetics

The most searched brands

Nike, Adidas, Zara, H&M, Pull&Bear, Mango, Levi's, The North Face, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger. If your item is from one of these brands, the name must appear at the beginning of the title.

Lesser-known brands

If your item is from a less well-known brand, lead with the type and put the brand second: "Stradivarius high-waisted slim jeans size 10 black" rather than "Stradivarius slim jeans".

Using categories and attributes correctly

Categories and attributes (material, style, cut) are the filters buyers use to narrow their search. A miscategorised item disappears from results the moment any filter is applied.

  • Choose the most specific subcategory available (e.g. "Evening dresses" rather than "Dresses")
  • Fill in the material — filters like "100% cotton" or "leather" are used a lot
  • Select the correct condition from the 4 options — "new with tags" generates 2x more views
  • Complete the main colour even if it seems obvious

The description: persuade, not index

To be clear: the description is not taken into account by Vinted's search algorithm. Its sole purpose is to convert the buyer who is already on your product page. It should answer questions the photos leave open:

  • Actual measurements (chest circumference, length from the neckline)
  • Purchase context ("bought in 2025, worn 3 times")
  • Specific flaws and their exact location
  • Fabric composition if the label is legible

Pro tip

Always end your description with an invitation to ask questions: "Feel free to ask for additional photos or measurements." This reduces drop-offs and increases the messages you receive.

Automating title optimisation

Writing an optimised title for every item is time-consuming when you sell in volume. You have to analyse the photo, identify the brand, pick the right keywords, structure the title — and repeat that for every piece.

Pikmatic automates this step: the AI analyses your photos, identifies the brand and item type, and automatically generates a structured title following the optimal formula — in a matter of seconds per item. Check out our tips on how to sell faster on Vinted.

Frequently asked questions

Does putting more words in the title help?

Up to a point. Vinted displays around 50-60 characters in results. Beyond that, your title is cut off. Prioritise the 5 key elements (brand, type, colour, size, feature) and avoid filler words like "beautiful" or "urgent".

Can you put multiple sizes in the title?

No. Choose the main size. If the item suits several body types, mention it in the description with actual measurements — that is more honest and more convincing.

Do hashtags work on Vinted?

No. Vinted does not index hashtags. Unlike Instagram, they serve no purpose in your titles or descriptions. Do not waste character space on them.

How do you know which keywords are searched on Vinted?

Type the beginning of a word in Vinted's search bar — the autocomplete shows you the popular terms. It is the most reliable method for identifying the vocabulary real buyers actually use.
